I chose Rosenquist's "Welcome To The Water Planet" (1987). It is a painting that celebrates the beauty of the space and sea, reminding viewers that it is these two elements that really control our planet. Fragments of innocent-looking women’s faces are spread over the canvas, acting as a mirror for the humans who are viewing the painting. The harsh lines of their faces clash violently with the organic flow of the natural elements in the painting.

I do no think Rosenquist's painting is harsh enough, and fails to get its point across. The first thing I did in my planet was to replace the women’s faces with that of Colonel Kurtz from Apocalypse Now. Instead of an idealistic virgin 'taking over' the planet, I have an icon of the violent masculine antagonist. Rosenquist gives a lotus, the symbol of peace, the most prominent position in his painting. I made it much smaller, pinker, and flippier—it chases itself meaninglessly, playing a game instead of providing a solution.

What viewers should know—Time is important, when you stop to think about it.
