Artist Statement

The piece that I have created is about a woman who has lived through the holocaust and it depicts how she deals with the traumatic experiences she has had to face. It’s a small piece that shows her journey to the realization of what truly happened to her…

My monologue was based on the art piece titled Cell I. I chose that specific piece because to me it felt the most powerful. After writing a short response to various works of art I felt that I could really develop on what I had written about Cell I. After completing the monologue I recorded about 5 takes then when I found the right one I went on to editing the piece in the sound program audacity. I took parts from some of my other takes to make echoes emphasizing various parts. I also used sound effects from the website “ freesound.org” to add a little extra something to the piece and to show the mood of the whole thing. To conclude the character that I was depicting was a woman actually sitting in a room looking in a mirror speaking to herself. She some how lost the sight of who she was because of all that she went through but in the end she comes back to reality and to a certain degree accepts what happened. She realizes that all this time she had been talking to herself and that’s when the glass shatters to end the piece.
