While viewing this image, visitors responded to one of the questions Catherine Opie posed about portraits.

  • What do you think makes a portrait interesting?

  • How do the titles of these photographs make you think differently about the people they portray?

  • Some of these images are made spontaneously while others are carefully staged by the artist. How does this difference in approach affect your response?

I think this woman would talk about her experience helping this artist with his photo series. She would talk between shots saying, "The young people these days are very creative, and eager to shake up convention." Diego approached me this morning and asked if I would like to pose for him. I told him, "Why not? What else am I going to do today?" When he explained his vision - with me framed by the antlers - I had a good chuckle. Maybe Diego wants to emphasize things used, dead or dying, but I'm still very amused by this situation." "Diego! When are you going to be finished? These are getting heavy."
