The Idea:

My proposal is on the outside front perimeter of the museum, as well as the fountain inside the lobby. I selected this site because of my belief in Daniel Buren’s idea that 100% of a museum is for displaying art, instead of selected rooms. What interested me about this site was that I hadn’t seen anyone use this space when doing installation art for the museum. My intent for this installation was to bring a flare to the outside of the museum, as well as play off of its solid color with a wide range around it. The art also invites the person into the museum.

Materials and Human Interaction:

For the installation on the outside of the museum I used paint and colored tape. For the installation to the fountain on the inside I used Plexiglas to Barr off the sectors as well as food coloring.

I intend for people to interact with my work by feeling and understanding the zones of color chosen. I would also like them to get the experience of seeing an outside installation relating to the inside, which not many people see.

Work Origin and Inspiration:

We began by looking at Daniel Buren’s installations in the Guggenheim Museum. How did they affect you or your work?

I gained a lot of ideas and inspiration from Mr. Buren’s work. I liked his style, which was simple and yet extremely complex when closely inspected. A reoccurring idea through my work was his belief that an entire household for art was to be used for art instead of selected areas. I also liked the persistence in his work, although only one medium is used (Stripes) he has given it so much life each time you see a different stage of his work. Another part of Buren's work that inspired me was his use of color.

My inspiration for this design was Daniel Buren’s work as well as principals. I think his work changed the way I viewed art in museums. Another part as weird as it sounds was the game twister, which I played a lot when I was younger.
