My proposal starts from inside the Guggenheim Museum to Central Park. I selected this site because I found that there was nothing much that was done to the area so I thought that it might help make the area seem more interesting. The purpose for my design was to connect people from Central Park to the museum. In my design I added a cylinder-shaped tunnel connecting the Guggenheim to Central Park that will be made of blue stained glass but the bottom will be made of concrete for the convenience of the people. After the tunnel there will be stairs made of concrete and covered with grass and every side but the top. Out front of the Guggenheim there will be a statue of Solomon R. Guggenheim, the designer of the Guggenheim Museum. The people will interact with the design in many ways. The people will be able to walk from the museum through the tunnel and out to the beauty of Central Park.

Daniel Buren’s installations in the Guggenheim museum helped me think about my proposal. Daniel Buren did many pieces that consisted of nothing but stripes. It was so simple but it was still art. I kept thinking about complicated things to do to the Guggenheim but when I took another look at Buren’s work and saw the simple things he did that made it art, I made simple changes and added simple things which led to this new proposal for the Guggenheim. The inspiration for my design was the structure of the Hostos Community College and the St. Barnabas Hospital located in the Bronx.
